Ijara and Tana River are two neighbouring district along the River Tana.Ijara is one of the district in northeastern provence with the capital town of Masalani dominated by the Somali community while Tana River is one of the district in the coast provence with the capital Garsen dominated by the pokomo community
the two communities are boarded by the River as each community live on one side of the river. tension has arised when the pokomo community crossed along the river tana and argued that they are the owners of the other side of the river and the somali community can not live and farm along the river.
Today a group of Pokomo men together with their new district commisner DC based in Garseni crosed the River and adressed the Somali residents of Kotiley Village that they can not live and farm along the River Tana especialy the areas between the dam of HASSAN BILE HAJI OYOW and the River while the somali community live in ABALATIROW VILLAGE which less than akilometer.
Somali residents of kotiley demonstrated and stiked shouting with anger and tension that they are not going to tolerate pokomo attacks with their Dc as they have no right to cross their border into another difrent provence with its own administration like them.
Local eye witneses reported casualties to ijara news. the pokomo community argued that they have full Authority from their MP that they should capture the other part of the river and displace the somali community because the river is for them.
Tana River MP has been the main mastermind of the casualties as he mobilised the pokomo community to continue attacks untill they capture the other part of the river.
The residents of ijara district are shocked with this organised emergiency attacks from pokomo community together with the new DC of Garseni and Tanariver Mp mr Mnyangatana who is the main mastermind motivating pokomo community to continue attacks as they have suport from the government.
